Interested in playing in the Iowa City Community String Orchestra?
The Iowa City Community String Orchestra is thrilled to welcome anyone who wishes to play. The most frequent question we receive is a combination of what is the required skill level or an amount of time that someone has been playing in order to join, and what is required for an audition. There are no auditions or any concrete guidelines for how long someone has played in order to be able to join. That being said, we do always tell new members that very new players often find the music too challenging and therefore not much fun and that a few years of playing will definitely improve that. Otherwise, the orchestra has a huge range of abilities from professional string players to amateur players with only a couple years of experience.
The ICCSO does ask for all members to pay $50 per semester in dues to help pay for rehearsal space, performance space, printing/copying, insurance, and staffing. If you are unable to pay, please contact the board president below. The orchestra would much rather have you play than not and in no way want them to stand in the way of you joining us.

Rehearsals begin at 7:30, so please plan to arrive a bit early
to be ready to go at that time.
All rehearsals are from 7:30-9:30 at the Preucil School North Campus.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS FOR PREUCIL SCHOOL – 2916 Northgate Drive, Iowa City
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE STREET; USE THE PARKING LOT BEHIND AND BELOW THE SCHOOL BUILDING.
If you come from I-80, use exit 246.
- Go north to Northgate Drive; this is the stoplight opposite the BP gas station
- Turn right
- Northgate Drive curves around
- The Preucil School is on the left
- The driveway to the parking lot is on the far side of the school;
- Enter through the front door – Walder Hall is on the main level
If you come from the north end of Iowa City:
- Get on North Dodge Street
- Go past the North Dodge Hy-Vee grocery store
- Go past the corner with Scott Boulevard
- Go over I-80
- Go north to Northgate Drive; this is the stoplight opposite the BP gas station/A&W
- Turn right
- Northgate Drive curves around
- The Preucil School is on the left
- The driveway to the parking lot is on the far side of the school
- Enter through the front door – Walder Hall is on the main level
