The Iowa City Community String Orchestra includes amateurs and professionals from the area who rehearse and perform both string orchestra and full orchestra literature. The orchestra is in its 30th season in 2009-10.

The orchestra typically rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the fall and spring semesters. The orchestra receives its financial support from membership dues (currently $40 per semester) and from contributions from generous donors in the community.
